After clinching the Trinity League championship earlier in the week, No. 1-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei saw its 22-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night when Orange Lutheran hung on for a 4-3 victory.

The Lancers did something few teams have done this season against Mater Dei (22-2) _ hit their pitching staff. Aaron Cross and Jacob Erickson gave up 10 hits. Travis Blue was the big hitter, getting three hits. Josh Morgan and Matt Stumme had two apiece.

Tyler Adkison, who had three hits for the Monarchs, tried to rally his team in the seventh, getting an RBI double. Leo Hernandez was able to get Ryan McMahon to fly out to end the game.

The loss is not expected to affect Mater Dei’s likely No. 1 seeding for the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
