Baseball: Kyle Molnar hits two home runs in Aliso Niguel victory

Sophomore Kyle Molnar hit two home runs and threw six innings to help Aliso Niguel begin the Southern Section Division 2 playoffs with a 7-1 victory over Claremont on Friday.

Top-seeded Redlands East Valley defeated Arcadia, 3-1. Sophomore left-hander David Barela threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing two hits. REV will face Vista Murrieta in the second round. Vista Murrieta got 17 hits in a 13-8 win over Beckman. Tyler Wilson, Ruben Ornelas and Ian Nowak each had three hits.

Yucaipa defeated Crescenta Valley, 1-0, in eight innings. Crescenta Valley’s Brian Gadsby threw a complete game. Crescenta Valley loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but Kyle Roy got a game-ending double play.

Santa Barbara upset Redlands, 6-3. Jeff Paschke doubled in two runs in the sixth inning and doubled in another run in the seventh. He also threw five innings for the victory to defeat Redlands ace Angel Landazuri. Santa Barbara will play La Mirada, a 7-4 winner over Damien.

Oxnard defeated Righetti, 4-3. Placentia Valencia defeated Camarillo, 3-1, on a walk-off two-run home run by Cesar Serna.

Arroyo Grande defeated Burbank, 7-1. Cypress defeated Irvine, 6-1. David Fletcher went four for four. San Clemente defeated Mayfair, 7-0, behind a complete game by Cody Maples.

Los Osos defeated Burbank Burroughs, 8-2. Dos Pueblos defeated Laguna Hills, 3-0. South Hills defeated Rio Mesa, 2-1.

In Division 6, Sierra Canyon defeated New Community Jewish, 4-2. Brian Tucker threw four scoreless innings. Buckley defeated Rosamond, 13-0. Kevin DeCorso, who’s the school valedictorian and will be attending Pennsylvania, had three hits and threw six innings on the mound to improve to 7-1 for Buckley.
