Baseball: JJ Muno gets four hits, two home runs in Notre Dame victory

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame locked up a Southern Section Division 1 playoff berth on Thursday, riding the hitting of senior JJ Muno, who had four hits, including two home runs, in a 13-2 Mission League victory over Alemany. Jack Morello threw a complete game.

Notre Dame finishes fourth and Alemany fifth in league. The league champion is still undecided after Chaminade played the spoiler’s role all week, knocking off Loyola for the second time, 9-3. Blake Rutherford and Nick Kahle each had three hits and Myles Hager had three RBIs.

Harvard-Westlake defeated St. Francis, 6-1, with Jack Flaherty striking out 14. If Harvard-Westlake defeats St. Francis on Friday night, the Wolverines will share the league title with Loyola and enter as the league’s No. 1 team after winning a coin flip. Chaminade will be the No. 3 team.

In the Sunset League, Marina defeated No. 2 ranked-Fountain Valley for the second time this week, 8-3. Jake Bauers went three for three with a home run. Fountain Valley won the league title, with Marina second. Jack Westermeyer improved to 8-1. Huntington Beach defeated Edison, 5-0.

In the Empire League, Cypress won the championship with a 5-2 win over Valencia. Trevor Hall struck out 10. Tyler Alamo had two hits.

In the Century League, Anaheim Canyon won its first title since 2010 with a 7-3 win over Foothill. Mario Losi threw a complete game. Brandon Luper struck out nine and threw a three-hitter in Esperanza’s 3-0 win over Villa Park.

In the Foothill League, Canyon and West Ranch shared the league title. West Ranch defeated Saugus, 5-2, and will be the No. 1 seed from the league. Cody Bennett won his 10th game with a complete-game performance. JD Kruskopf hit two home runs. Tyler Woldanski also homered.

Canyon defeated Valencia, 3-2. Chris McCready had a home run. Hart defeated Golden Valley, 6-3. Dayton Provost had a two-run home run.

In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Oak Park, 7-0. Jack Kruger hit a two-run home run.

In the Trinity League, Santa Margarita claimed third place with a 3-2 win over Servite. Austin Ponzi had two hits. Orange Lutheran defeated St. John Bosco, 8-1. Jason Martin had two hits and two RBIs. Mater Dei finished 24-2 after a 2-0 win over JSerra. Aaron Cross threw a three-hitter and Ryan McMahon had two RBIs.

Jake Hazard went three for three in Beckman’s 8-5 win over Irvine University.

In the Del Rey League, Roosevelt Bates had three hits in Gardena Serra’s 7-4 win over Cathedral. Bishop Amat defeated Bishop Montgomery, 5-0. Alex Garcia threw five shutout innings. Adam Alcantara had a home run and three RBIs.

Sierra Canyon won its 20th game with a 3-0 win over Milken. Jackson Ramey improved to 10-0, striking out eight.

In the Channel League, Dos Pueblos defeated Santa Barbara, 2-1, on a two-out single by Dylan Rohde. John Brontsema had two doubles for Santa Barbara.
