Baseball: Jake Bauers hits two home runs to power Marina

Jake Bauers of Marina led off Friday’s Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinal game against Agoura with a home run, the second time he has pulled off that feat in the playoffs. Then he hit another leadoff home run in the third inning, his fourth home run of the playoffs.

Austin Olivas made the home runs hold up in Marina’s 3-1 win victory over Agoura. Olivas threw a complete game with zero walks. Bauers has 10 home runs this season. Marina advances to Tuesday’s 4 p.m. semifinals against Loyola.

Loyola defeated Riverside Poly, 9-4. The Cubs gave up three runs in the top of the first inning, then scored six runs in the bottom of the first, with Joe Viole hitting a two-run home run and Chad Powers getting a two-run double.

The other semifinal will match No. 3-seeded Harvard-Westlake against Los Alamitos at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Blair Field. Jack Flaherty (12-0) threw a three-hitter and struck out 10 with zero walks to lead Harvard-Westlake past Santa Margarita, 5-0. Brian Ginsberg had a pair of RBI singles and Arden Pabst had three hits.

Los Alamitos knocked off No. 2-seeded El Toro, 4-1, behind a complete game from junior pitcher Jacob Nix.
