Harvard-Westlake earned a spot in Friday's Southern Section Division 1 championship game at Dodger Stadium with a 3-2 victory over Los Alamitos on Tuesday night at Blair Field in Long Beach.

The No. 3-seeded Wolverines scored three runs in the first inning and were able to hang on behind strong relief pitching from Hans Hansen, who came in with two runners aboard in the fifth inning and got a fly out to end the scoring threat and finished with 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief

Harvard-Westlake will play Marina in Friday's 8 p.m. championship game at Dodger Stadium.

Joe Corrigan had a two-run single in the first inning and Brian Ginsberg had an RBI single for the Wolverines.

Darren McCaughan pitched well after the first inning for Los Alamitos, limiting the Wolverines to five hits while striking out four and walking none.

Harvard-Westlake Coach Matt LaCour is on the verge of a one-of-a-kind accomplishment. He won a City Section Division I championship when he coached at Woodland Hills El Camino Real and now he could win a Southern Section Division 1 title.

"This six-year journey we've done the right way," LaCour said. "It hasn't been a bunch of transfers. It's home-grown kids that we grind on the field. When you get kids that are smart and motivated and you put expectations on them, I think we've shown you can do some pretty special things."
