The Venice softball team is 14-2-1 and looking like a City Section Division II title contender under first-year Coach Daniel Soto. And there’s some Venice royalty on the team.

Freshman shortstop Emma Soto is the neice of former USC baseball Coach Frank Cruz and related to the Soto family that has been so prominent in athletics in Venice history in football and baseball. There’s also another Soto in Samantha, the daughter of former Venice quarterback Eddie Soto.

Standout pitcher Milana Casillas is the daughter of former USC football/baseball player Oscar Casillas, who’s an ER physician. Casillas has pitched in every game and has a 1.83 ERA.

Venice is 6-0 in the Western League and faces City power Carson in a tournament game on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Sun Valley Poly in a game important for playoff seeding purposes.
