Baseball: Oaks Christian advances to Boras Classic semifinals

Oaks Christian turned loose its ace pitcher, Phil Bickford, on Wednesday, and El Toro suffered the consequences, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Lions in a quarterfinal game of the Boras Classic at JSerra.

Bickford struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits to outduel Ryan Kayoda. Brandon Evans went three for three and scored the go-ahead run in the fourth.

Oaks Christian will face host JSerra in Thursday’s 6 p.m. semifinal. JSerra defeated West Ranch, 5-2. Dane McFarland, back from a hand injury, had two hits. Parker Joe Robinson threw a complete game.

Lakewood advanced to the semifinals with a 10-1 win over Great Oak. Jonathan Pasillas had three hits and two RBIs. Andrew Mendoza added two hits. Lakewood will play Mater Dei on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mater Dei.

The Monarchs (12-1) defeated Corona Santiago, 8-2. Ryan McMahon went four for four. Brian Soper had a three-run double. Aaron Cross threw six shutout innings.

In consolation games, Nick Milone struck out nine in Chatsworth’s 6-0 win over Hart. Adam Alcantara had two hits in Bishop Amat’s 5-2 win over El Camino Real.

Chad Gubicza threw a two-hitter and Myles Hager had the game-winning hit in the seventh in Chaminade’s 2-1 win over Vista Murrieta. Anaheim Canyon defeated Loyola, 4-3. Mario Losi struck out eight and walked none.
