For four years, Spencer Knoche has been a manager for the Mira Costa baseball team. He’d get cut in the winter and stay with the team in the spring.

Coach Cassidy Olson decided to let Knoche dress in uniform for last week’s game against Leuzinger and put him in the lineup. Then came this stunning development: Knoche hit two home runs. Real home runs over the left-field fence, something he had never done in practice.

‘It was pretty cool,’ Olson said.

Knoche was so stunned when he got to second base he didn’t know the ball had gone over the fence, Olson said.

Knoche and another manager, Christian Carreathers, will dress out for the remaining Bay League games.

The lesson: Don’t mess with the managers at Mira Costa High.
