Baseball: Matt Campbell strikes out eight, homers in Simi Valley win

Simi Valley improved to 4-1 in the Marmonte League with an 11-4 victory over rival Royal on Wednesday. Junior Matt Campbell threw a complete game, striking out eight. He also hit a home run and finished with three RBIs.

Sean Barry (7-0) threw a six-hitter, striking out seven and walking one in Moorpark’s 2-1 win over Westlake. Thousand Oaks scored two runs in the sixth inning to pull out a 2-1 win over Newbury Park.

In the Golden League, Quartz Hill defeated Highland, 11-0, in five innings. Jonathan Teaney struck out eight in four innings. He also had a two-run home run. Tyler Pittmon had three RBIs and hit a two-run home run.

In the East Valley League, Poly defeated North Hollywood, 5-0. Oscar Romo improved to 5-0. Alonso Hernandez had two doubles and two RBIs.

In the Righetti tournament, ALemany defeated Paso Robles, 11-1. Ruben Cardenas had three hits. Alemany also defeated Merced Golden Valley, 3-0. Nick Suniga struck out seven.

In the St. Paul tournament, St. John Bosco defeated Cathedral, 4-2. Senior first baseman Ivan Chavarria went eight for nine in the tournament.

Reseda Cleveland defeated Roosevelt, 10-1. Peyton Long went three for three. Taft defeated Garfield, 1-0. Cody Magdaleno and Adam Cox combined on the shutout.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Estancia, 4-3, in eight innings. Freshman Ryan Mendoza had the game-winning double. Agoura defeated Utah Riverton, 6-4.

Warren defeated Baldwin Park, 11-2. Alan Trejo went three for five with two RBIs and struck out eight in six innings. Rene Vega had three hits.
