Baseball: Mater Dei takes 5-0 lead over Oaks Christian [Updated[

In the championship game of the Southern California Boras Classic, Santa Ana Mater Dei scored five runs in the top of the first inning with two outs to take a 5-0 lead over Oaks Christian.

Ryan McMahon got his eighth consecutive hit of the tournament, a line-drive single. The big hit was a three-run double by freshman Josh Stephen. The Monarchs took advantage of three walks from pitcher Steven Vogelbach.

Jacob Erickson will be on the mound for Mater Dei, which is seeking its 14th consecutive victory.

Updated: Erickson has struck out eight through five innings for Mater Dei, which leads, 5-0.
