Baseball: Fountain Valley is 16-1 and looking very strong

April 3, 2013 |  7:08 pm

If top-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei slips this week, Fountain Valley is more than ready to take over the No. 1 spot in Southern California baseball.

The No. 2-ranked Barons improved to 16-1 on Wednesday and finished 5-0 in the Anaheim Lions tournament after a 12-5 victory over Capistrano Valley. Fountain Valley rallied from a five-run deficit.

Center fielder John Shattles contributed a key two-run double. Justin Cobb picked up the win in relief.

Fountain Valley outscored its opponents, 65-11, in the tournament.

Gardena Serra defeated Servite, 5-2. Dominic Smith had a home run and triple.
