Baseball: Cleveland gets sweep of Taft in West Valley League

Reseda Cleveland (14-6, 2-0) has started West Valley League play just as it had hoped. The Cavaliers came away with a two-game sweep of Taft, knocking off the Toreadors, 9-4, on Thursday.

Harley Faye and Reno Rankin hit home runs. Andrew Devian and Jack Hartman added two hits apiece.

Chatsworth (14-7, 2-0) completed a two-game sweep of El Camino Real with a 7-3 victory. Nick Milone threw a complete game and Anthony Mayorga had a two-run double and finished with three hits.

In the East Valley League, Arleta defeated Poly, 3-2, on a walk-off single by Andrew Cuevas. Ryan Reyes threw a complete game.

In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated Van Nuys, 15-0. Gilbert Hernandez threw a one-hitter. Chis Sandberg had three hits and four RBIs. San Fernando defeated Reseda, 16-4. Javier Aguilar had three RBIs and Ariel Torres had two hits.

In the Mission League, Loyola stayed in first place with a 15-0 win over Crespi. Nick Sablock had three hits and hit a grand slam. Joey Viole went four for four. The Cubs are 12-8 and 5-1. Kyle Beadles struck out seven in five innings.

Sierra Canyon rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Downey Calvary Chapel, 9-6. Jake Fried and Jackson Ramey each had two hits. Reid Womack had three hits and four RBIs in Buckley’s 17-5 win over Pacific Christian.
