There could be lots of consequences for the Cathedral-St. Paul baseball teams after their game last Friday was halted when both benches emptied in the fifth inning after an argument erupted between two players.

The umpires decided both teams were in violation of national and CIF rules after team members left their respective dugouts, forcing them to be ejected and causing the game to be halted, according to Southern Section spokesman Thom Simmons.

It’s unknown what the result of the game will be, but usually when players are ejected, they also have to serve a one-game suspension.

Cathedral was 5-0 in the Del Rey League.

Updated: Cathedral players who were ejected sat out Saturday’s game against Loyola and will be able to play Tuesday against Bishop Amat, according to Cathedral Athletic Director John Ferrante. The umpire called the game a double forfeit. The Southern Section confirmed the double forfeit on Monday.
