Baseball: Royal hands Sean Barry his first defeat

Sean Barry of Moorpark has been close to unbeatable on the mound this season, but Simi Valley Royal scored five runs off him in the first three innings and held on for a 5-3 Marmonte League victory on Wednesday.

Chris Kovach had a two-run double and finished with three hits. Brian Rose had a bases clearing triple. In other Marmonte League games, a sixth-inning RBI double by Taylor Woodall gave Westlake a 1-0 win over Simi Valley. Zak Daniels allowed one hit in six innings to outduel Simi Valley’s Matt Campbell.

Albee Weiss hit two home runs in Agoura’s 4-2 win over Thousand Oaks. Henry Baker struck out seven and Tyler Cohen got the save. Newbury Park defeated Calabasas, 7-6, with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sammy Ross had a home run and double for Calabasas.

In the Tri-Valley League, Phil Bickford allowed one hit (a bunt single) and struck out 11 in Oaks Christian’s 4-1 win over Bishop Diego. He struck out 11.

In the Sunset League, No. 2-ranked Fountain Valley (17-1) won a wild game with Huntington Beach, 12-11, on walk-off home run by Daniel Patzlaff, who finished with three hits, including two home runs. Justin Cobb had four RBIs. Freshman Logan Pouelsen had three hits and three RBIs for Huntington Beach.

Vista Murrieta (10-6, 4-1) pulled into a first-place tie in the Southwestern League after a 3-1 win over Temecula Valley. Tyler Russell threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Cypress defeated Western, 27-4, in an Empire League game. Steven Lohr hit a grand slam and finished with seven RBIs. The Alamo brothers, Tyler and Brandon, were a combined seven for eight. David Fletcher went four for six with four RBIs.

In the Foothill League, West Ranch defeated Canyon, 13-8. Tony Slauson had three hits and three RBIs. Jagger Rusconi added three hits and two RBIs. Valencia defeated Golden Valley, 8-3. JD Busfield threw a complete game and Kyle Sanchez had three hits. Saugus defeated Hart, 7-6. Chris Devery hit a grand slam and Nick Warren added a two-run home run.

In the Golden League, Quartz Hill defeated Palmdale, 14-3. In the Trinity League, Orange Lutheran defeated JSerra, 7-1. Garett King threw the complete game and Travis Blue had three hits and two RBIs.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Wilson defeated Lakewood, 4-3. Long Beach Poly defeated Millikan, 7-1.

Brea Olinda defeated Esperanza, 7-6. San Clemente held off Laguna Hills, 5-4. Mira Costa defeated West Torrance, 8-1. Glendora defeated Alta Loma, 17-9. Garrett Ouelette had a home run and triple. Kale Morton contributed four hits and four RBIs.

Jack Flaherty struck out seven and allowed three hits in Harvard-Westlake’s 3-0 win over South Torrance. In game two, Alex Horowitz hit a two-run home run and Arden Pabst had three RBIs in a 9-3 victory. Jack Morello had two hits and four RBIs to help Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeat Salesian, 12-1.

In the East Valley League, Poly defeated Arleta, 9-8. Oscar Romo improved to 6-0 and Salamon Salazar had two hits and two RBIs. Verdugo Hills defeated North Hollywood, 11-2. Albert Olmos pitched a complete game. Brandon Mona went three for five with three RBIs.

Malibu (15-3) defeated Fillmore, 7-0. Noah Simon threw a three-hitter. Chase Lambert had a double and triple.
