Baseball: Oaks Christian, Mater Dei advance to Boras Classic final

NFL quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen and Matt Leinart could have a Twitter war after their alma maters, Oaks Christian and Mater Dei, advanced to the championship game of the Boras Classic on Thursday.

Oaks Christian (12-2-1) received a strong pitching performance from Harrison Hoff and a third-inning grand slam from Jack Kruger to defeat JSerra, 5-2. Hoff threw a complete game, striking out four and walking one.

Mater Dei (13-1) knocked off Lakewood, 6-1 Ryan McMahon, who was four for four on Wednesday, was three for three. Austin Grebeck, Tyler Adkison and Jeremy Martinez added two hits apiece. Chuck Vorsheck threw a complete game.

The championship game is set for Friday at 6 p.m. at JSerra. Lakewood will play JSerra in the third-place game at 3 p.m.

In consolation games, Vista Murrieta defeated El Camino Real, 5-4. Steven Garrett had three hits. Hayden Rappoport hit a two-run home run for El Camino Real. Bishop Amat defeated Chaminade, 12-3. Adam Alcantara had three RBIs and Michael Palos had two hits.

Anaheim Canyon defeated Chatsworth, 8-6. Josh Balbuena and Cole Garcia each had three hits and two RBIs. Loyola defeated Hart, 10-5. Brandon Caruso and Chad Powers each had three hits for the Cubs. El Toro defeated West Ranch, 8-1. Stephen Villines threw a complete game and Dan James had two hits and two RBIs. Great Oak defeated Corona Santiago, 5-4, on a seventh-inning sacrifice fly by Eli Lingos.

The rest of Friday’s schedule: West Ranch vs. Corona Santiago at JSerra, noon; Loyola vs. Vista Murrieta at JSerra, 9 a.m.; Anaheim Canyon vs. Bishop Amat at Mater Dei, 6 p.m.; Chatsworth vs. Chaminade at Mater Dei, 3 p.m.; Great Oak vs. El Toro at Mater Dei, noon; Hart vs. El Camino Real at Mater Dei, 9 a.m.
