Girls' basketball: Lynwood wins DII state title

March 23, 2013 |  4:06 pm

Lynwood defeated Mountain View St. Francis, 39-26, for the CIF state championship Division II final.

This is the fourth state title for the Knights and the first at DII. Lynwood won DI titles in 1993 and consecutive seasons in 2002-03.

The 65 total points scored breaks a CIF girls' title game record for lowest combined score. The previous record was 67 points.

"We tell our team, defensively we can always win," Lynwood head coach Ellis Barfield said.

The Knights went on a 13-0 run in the second quarter and led 20-10 at the half.

Jazmine Johnson led Lynwood with 11 points and Amber Blockmon scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
