High school coaches are beginning to understand what players are going through when it comes to making commitments in the recruiting world.

Gardena Serra Coach Scott Altenberg was offered the job as an assistant coach for the Under Armour all-star game in Florida. He committed to coaching in the game. Ten days later, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio wanted him to be head coach for their game.

‘For a minute, I felt like one of the kids,’ Altenberg said. ‘I had two games wanting me. They’re both awesome.’

So did he decommit from Under Armour and commit to U.S. Army?

Nope, he’s sticking with Under Armour because that was his first commitment.

What exhaustion. And it’s only March.

The battle of the all-star games is getting as intense as the battle of the college recruiters.

Only in high school sports.
