Boys’ basketball: What if Jordan Mathews had stayed at Riverside North?

Riverside North has made it to the CIF Southern California Division II semifinals and will host Westlake on Tuesday.

But imagine if Santa Monica’s Jordan Mathews hadn’t left North after his freshman year?

Mathews has led Santa Monica to the Division I semifinals, scoring 41 and 37 points in his last two games. He moved to Santa Monica after his father, Phil, was hired as an assistant coach at UCLA. He has signed with California.

The other Division II semifinal matches San Diego Hoover against host Redondo, whose coach, Reggie Morris Jr., has now guided three different schools to Southern Section championships.
