To go from 10-17 the previous season to state champions is no easy task, but that’s what Redondo High and first-year Coach Reggie Morris Jr. pulled off on Saturday at Sleep Train Arena, winning the Division II championship with a 54-47 victory over College Park.

Jeremiah Headley, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, helped the Sea Hawks overcome some early jitters. He came off the bench to score 19 points, including a thunderous dunk with 33.9 seconds left that gave Redondo an eight-point margin. He also had 13 rebounds. Ian Fox scored 11 points and Derek Biale 10.

Redondo finished 28-8 in winning its first state title. For Morris, it gives him something to brag about with his father, Reggie Sr., who guided Manual Arts to a state Division I title in 1988.

Joe Demers had 13 points and 14 rebounds for College Park. Mikey Eggleton had 14 points.
