A three-pointer by Derek Check with five seconds left gave Bakersfield Independence (33-1) a 60-58 victory over visiting Compton on Wednesday night in a CIF Southern California Division III playoff game.

There was controversy at the end. According to the Bakersfield Californian, Compton Coach Tony Thomas allegedly bumped a referee and yelled until security pulled him away when he became upset that no foul was called when Iziahiah Sweeney was bumped in the backourt.

‘We inbounded the ball, and there was a blantant foul, but the ref didn’t have the guts to call it,’ Thomas told the newspaper.
