Basketball: Section championships conclude today

The CIF Southern Section basketball championships conclude today with six games at the Anaheim Convention Center and six more at Mater Dei.

One of the best games should be the Division 3A boys final between Chaminade and St. John Bosco at 10 a.m. at the Convention Center. That will be followed by five more boys contests: La Verne Lutheran taking on Gardena Serra in the 4AA final at noon, the 2A final pitting Redondo against Westlake at 2, Villa Park against Riverside North for the 2AA title at 4, Santa Monica versus El Toro in Division 1A at 6 p.m. and the 1AA showdown at 8:30 between Etiwanda and Mater Dei.

At Mater Dei, the action begins at 9:30 a.m. with the Division 6 boys final between Rio Hondo Prep and Trinity Classical Academy. Next is the girls’ Division 6 game pitting Rio Hondo Prep against Providence Hall at 11:30. That will be followed by the girls’ 5AA final between Sierra Canyon and Village Christian at 1:30. The boys’ 5AA final pits Buckley against Mission Prep at 3:30, then St Paul meets St. Monica for the girls’ 4A title at 5:30. The last game there is the 4A boys showdown at 7:30 between Alpha League rivals Pacific Hills and Brentwood.
