Baseball: Servite has a junior pitcher on the rise in Ryan Alsworth

March 18, 2013 |  6:10 pm

There should be no doubt who's the ace pitcher at Anaheim Servite. It's junior right-hander Ryan Alsworth, who last week shut out Mater Dei for seven innings and on Monday came back to strike out two and walk none in six innings during the Friars' 6-2 Trinity League victory over JSerra.

"He knows how to pitch," Servite Coach Jeff Sears said of Alsworth, who's 3-0 and also has a save.

Patrick Flynn had two hits and two RBIs for Servite (4-3, 2-1).

Orange Lutheran (7-3, 2-1) scored two runs in the eighth inning to defeat Santa Margarita, 9-7. Travis Blue and Matt Stumme had three hits apiece. Tyler Adkison and Ryan McMahon hit home runs in No. 1-ranked Mater Dei's 4-1 win over St. John Bosco. Aaron Cross allowed five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

In a Mission League game, Loyola defeated St. Francis, 16-4.

In the Valley Mission League, San Fernando defeated Van Nuys, 9-0. Alonzo Garcia struck out eight of the nine batters he faced. Jose Haros went three for four with a home run. Carlos Robles added two RBIs. Kennedy defeated Panorama, 19-5. Estevan Rodriguez had three hits and three RBIs. Angel Romo struck out seven.

In a nonleague game, Bishop Amat defeated Tesoro, 12-3. AJ Alcantara went three for three with a home run and triple. Scott Hurst also homered.

Cajon defeated Cleveland, 3-2. Burbank lost, 11-10, to Arizona Cienega. Birmingham defeated Crescenta Valley, 4-3. Ted Boeke hit a home run and triple for Crescenta Valley. Nick Schwartz had two hits for Birmingham. Yucaipa defeated Arcadia, 3-1. Tom Lerouge had three hits.
