Baseball: Saugus has a freshman to watch in Joey Mendez

March 30, 2013 |  8:00 pm

Freshman outfielder Joey Mendez is earning rave reviews for Saugus.

He's batting over .450 with two home runs, including a 400-foot blast off of Kyle Molnar of Aliso Niguel.

He also had a two-run double off Dos Pueblos' Gabe Speier in a loss on Saturday.

Coach John Maggiora calls him "the most advanced hitter that's come into our program in my eight years."
