Baseball: Gardena Serra will soon be at full strength

If you want to know which team might have the most talent in Southern California baseball, get ready for Gardena Serra to move up fast come April 1, the day transfer students become eligible under the CIF's month-long sitout rule.

That's when pitcher Solomon Bates, a transfer from Victor Valley, and pitcher Marcus Wilson, a transfer from Hamilton, can officially step onto the field for Serra.

Then they can join Ryan Dobson, a transfer from St. Bernard; Robert Hunt, a transfer from St. Bernard, and Trent Hammond, a transfer from Mira Costa.

As long as the CIF is allowing athletes to move around, Serra is glad to have them. And what a team the Cavaliers will have.

They are 7-3 this season and 7-0 when they have most of their starters together. Come April 1, beating the Cavaliers will become very difficult.

Then everyone can start debating whether transfers and building all-star teams is a good thing, because the Cavaliers are going to start routing teams in Division III.
