So far, so good for Harvard-Westlake and Santa Ana Mater Dei playing in the National High School Invitational in Cary, N.C.

Both schools advanced to the semifinals after shutout victories on Thursday.

Harvard-Westlake defeated Utah Bingham, 2-0, behind Conor Cuse, who struck out eight and walked one in a complete-game performance. Jack Flaherty had two hits.

Mater Dei defeated South Carolina Lexington, 1-0, behind pitcher Aaron Cross. Ryan McMahon drove in the only run with an RBI double. Jeremy Martinez and Bryan Call had two hits apiece.

If Harvard-Westlake and Mater Dei win their semifinal games on Thursday, they would meet in the championship game for the second consecutive year.
