Baseball: Alemany could be factor in Mission League

Harvard-Westlake, Loyola and Chaminade started out as the preseason favorites to win the Mission League in baseball, but don't forget about Alemany (7-2, 2-0).

The Warriors have a top closer in Rene Deleon, who's 2-0 with one save and has 16 strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings. That means teams had better not let the Warriors take the lead in the final two innings.

Sophomore Kyle Merkel is 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA. Nick Suniga is batting .452 with nine doubles.

Alemany doesn't resume league play until April 9 against Chaminade.
