Baseball: San Clemente is 5-0 after 10-inning victory

San Clemente improved to 5-0 on Friday after a 2-1, 10-inning victory over Santa Margarita in the Loara tournament.

Cody Maples hit a home run and finished with three hits. He also threw seven innings. Austin Ponzi had three hits for Santa Margarita, which got a strong pitching performance from UCLA commit Griffin Canning. San Clemente is scheduled to play Long Beach Poly on Saturday night in the championship game of the Paramount tournament.

No. 2-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei was beaten by Stockton St. Mary’s, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Monarchs were limited to three hits. Joe Caffese threw six shutout innings for St. Mary’s. In the second game, Mater Dei won, 13-2. Ryan McMahon had a home run and three hits. Tyler Adkison drove in three runs. Aaron Cross allowed zero hits in four innings.

Freshman Jack Moberg struck out six in four innings of Vista Murrieta’s 13-0 win over Woodbridge. Steven Garrett had three RBIs and Joven Afenir had three hits.

Gardena Serra defeated El Segundo, 7-1. Dominic Smith struck out 10 in five innings. He also had a double, home run and three RBIs. Tim Ravare went three for three.

Alex Gironda threw seven shutout innings in Santa Monica’s 1-0 win over Buena in eight innings.

Anaheim Canyon defeated La Palma Kennedy, 3-2. Mario Losi threw a four-hitter. Chris Prescott had two hits, including an RBI single in the seventh.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (3-0) defeated Ventura, 4-3. Jake Hirabayashi drove in the game-winning run in the sixth. Sun Valley Poly (3-0) defeated Hoover, 16-3. Josue Moreno had two doubles and four RBIs. Notre Dame will play at Poly on Saturday in the SoCal semifinals, with Canyon Country Canyon at Royal.

Hueneme defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 3-2. Felix Rubi struck out six in six innings for Kennedy. Nordhoff defeated North Hollywood, 2-1, in eight innings. Andrew Marmor allowed three hits in 7 1/3 innings for the Huskies. JB Garcia, Patrick Lofgren, Kyle Feffer and Ryan McBride had two hits apiece in Granada Hills’ 12-2 win over San Marcos. Birmingham defeated Culver City, 5-3. Edgar Rulvacaba hit a home run and Ray Rulvacaba drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Adrian Rodriguez threw a complete game.

Brentwood defeated Chadwick, 11-9. Oxnard Pacifica defeated Sylmar, 7-6. Adam Maciel went three for three. Sierra Canyon defeated Grant, 10-6. Jake Fried had three hits, including two triples. Brock Bell went four for five. Campbell Hall defeated Arleta, 12-7.

Malibu defeated Bishop Diego, 16-1. Chase Lambert went three for four with two doubles and four RBIs. Noah Simon threw a two-hitter. San Fernando defeated Palisades, 6-5. Bonita defeated Claremont, 2-0.
