Baseball: Mission League favorites suffer defeats

Two of the favorites in Mission League baseball, Harvard-Westlake and Chaminade, didn’t do well on Friday with their No. 2 pitchers and each went down to defeat.

Crespi defeated Harvard-Westlake, 8-5. Cole Vercammen had three hits and two RBIs. Vince Leoni had two hits. Andy Frakes, a sidearmer who threw three innings earlier in the week, threw seven more to pick up the victory.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame knocked off Chaminade, 13-5. Jake Hirabayashi had a two-run home run for Notre Dame. Jack Morello got the pitching victory. Loyola defeated St. Francis, 9-5. Quinn Brodey had a home run, double and triple. Kyle Beadles struck out 12 in 5 1/3 innings. Nathan Hadley struck out four in 1 2/3 innings.

Bonita improved to 8-1 with a 15-5 victory over Rowland. Connor Renard and Austin McGilvra had two hits apiece.

In the Century League, El Dorado handed Anaheim Canyon its first defeat, 2-1, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Record struck out eight and gave up only three hits. He also drove in both runs. Esperanza defeated Foothill, 8-3.

In the Marmonte League, Newbury Park defeated Moorpark, 7-0. Sawyer Hamilton threw a four-hitter. Colton Waltner and Ricky Davis each hit home runs and had three RBIs. Andy Sondreal gave up seven hits in Agoura’s 5-0 victory over Royal. Bryce Fehmel and Noah Shearer had two hits apiece.

Simi Valley defeated Calabasas, 8-2, with Matt Campbell getting three RBIs and Spencer Dubaich recording eight strikeouts. Thousand Oaks defeated Westlake, 4-2.

In the Foothill League, Cody Bennett struck out nine in a complete game to help West Ranch defeat Hart, 3-2. Jagger Rusconi had two hits and two RBIs. Hunter Holland had a three-run home run, but Valencia was beaten by Saugus, 4-3. Chris Danielson threw a five-hitter with six strikeouts for Saugus. Canyon defeated Golden Valley, 7-1.

Dylan Stablein threw the shutout in Beckman’s 2-0 win over Woodbridge. Vista Murrieta scored three runs in the top of the seventh to pull out a 9-8 victory over Murrieta Valley. Joven Afenir had four RBIs and hit two home runs.

In the South Coast League, Chasen Ford struck out seven, walked one and gave up only three hits in El Toro’s 5-1 win over Trabuco Hills. Shane Timmons got the save in Capistrano Valley’s 2-0 win over Mission Viejo.

Left-hander Kirav Patel threw a five-hitter in Windward’s 6-0 victory over Brentwood.

In City Section play, Sun Valley Poly (9-1) defeated Chavez, 7-4. Javy Vazquez had two hits and two RBIs. Arleta defeated Grant, 5-0. Nate Casillas had two hits. North Hollywood defeated Monroe, 7-2. Brayden Harris hit a home run and picked up the win.

In a Channel League game, Santa Barbara defeated Buena, 3-1. Gabe Grancolas threw a three-hitter.

Warren defeated Lynwood, 12-2. Daniel Roman had two hits and three RBIs. Warren is 3-0 in league.
