Baseball: Sean Barry is 4-0 after leading Moorpark past Simi Valley

Sean Barry (4-0) continued his strong early season pitching form, striking out 10 in six innings while allowing one hit to help Moorpark defeat Simi Valley, 9-2, in a Marmonte League opener on Wednesday. Barry has 45 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Troy Conway had three hits for the Musketeers and Austin Cole had a triple and RBI.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Cohen struck out Colton Waltner to preserve Agoura’s 5-3 victory over defending Southern Section Division I champion Newbury Park.

Louis Cicata had two hits and two RBIs and Cohen contributed two doubles. Henry Baker struck out seven and allowed two hits for the Chargers, retiring the first 15 batters. Bryce Fehmel had three hits.

Westlake defeated Royal, 3-2. Luke Dykstra and Adam Terrazas had two hits apiece. Zak Daniels struck out four in six innings. Tanner Kovach picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. Calabasas defeated Thousand Oaks, 5-4, on a walk-off hit by Brandon Cajulis. Taylor Keppler had a home run and scored the winning run.

In Foothill League openers, Canyon Country Canyon defeated West Ranch, 13-4. Justin Stark had three hits and four RBIs. Tony Slauson, Tyler Woldanski and Jake Bird each had three hits for West Ranch. Saugus defeated Hart, 5-4, in 10 innings. Chris Devery hit a two-run home run for Saugus in the top of the 10th. Nick Valaika had a two-run double in the bottom of the 10th for Hart.

Valencia defeated Golden Valley, 10-3. Golden Valley hit three home runs in the first inning by Billy Fredrick, Equan Martin and Lukas Granado. But J.D. Busfield settled down on the mound after that.

Chatsworth defeated Bishop Amat, 9-2, at USC. Sophomore Garrett Kuebler had a three-run triple. Jason Karkenny threw a complete game.

Glendora defeated Etiwanda, 9-6. Scott Burke had 11 strikeouts and Billy Sanford hit a two-run home run.

Three pitchers combined to lead El Toro past Edison, 5-0. Trent Hammond had a grand slam and Khalil Denson threw a two-hitter in Gardena Serra’s 12-0 win over El Rancho.

Moises Ceja threw a one-hitter, striking out three and walking none in Kennedy’s 6-0 win over Granada Hills. Birmingham defeated Sylmar, 4-3. Daniel Rivas threw five innings and his ERA is 1.83.

Nico Lima had a home run and triple in Crespi’s 6-3 win over Peninsula.
