Baseball: Tyler Russell improves to 5-0 for Vista Murrieta

When in need of a victory, Vista Murrieta always turns to senior ace Tyler Russell, who delivered a three-hitter on Wednesday, striking out six and walking one in a 4-1 win over Murrieta Mesa in a Southwestern League game.

Russell improved to 5-0 for the Broncos (8-3, 3-1).

In a Golden League opener, Quartz Hill defeated Eastside, 15-0, in five innings. Jonathan Teaney threw a no-hitter and struck out 13. Tyler Pittman was three for three.

In the Century League, Anaheim Canyon defeated Brea Olinda, 5-2. Joe Van Marter had two hits and three RBIs. In the Baseline League, Upland defeated Glendora, 3-1.

In Las Vegas, San Fernando advanced to the Durango tourney championship game with a 3-2 win over Arbor View. Alonzo Garcia threw four shutout innings. Roberto Ramos hit a two-run home run. Arbor View had a 17-game win streak ended.

Chatsworth freshman Josh Garcia threw a complete game in his debut, leading the Chancellors to a 3-2 victory over Nevada Cimmaron Memorial. Chatsworth went 3-1 in Las Vegas.

In San Diego, Chaminade defeated Vista, 6-1. Freshman Nick Kahle had two hits and three RBIs. North Hollywood defeated San Diego Lincoln, 16-8. Daniel Meza had three hits. Sierra Canyon defeated Palo Verde, 7-0. Brian Tucker threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and went three for three at the plate.

Reseda Cleveland defeated Otay Ranch, 7-3. Harley Faye doubled twice and had two RBIs. Reno Rankin and Matt del Mundo added two hits apiece. El Camino Real lost to Madison, 5-1.

In Arizona, Sean Barry struck out 13 and threw a one-hitter in Moorpark’s 5-0 win over Air Academy. Brad Fullerton had three hits. The Musketeers also defeated Colorado Palmer Ridge, 15-4. Taylor Ready had three hits, including a two-run home run. Santa Barbara was beaten by Oregon Sheldon, 8-6. Jeff Paschke had three RBIs.

In San Luis Obispo, Simi Valley split a doubleheader, losing to Dos Pueblos, 4-3, and beating San Luis Obispo, 6-3. Wyatt Hogan had a home run in the first game and two RBIs in the second game.

Nick Martin had three hits in Buckley’s 8-3 win over Salem Academy.

Mike Crutch had two hits in Grace Brethren’s 4-3 win over Westlake. Newbury Park defeated Utah Hillcrest, 11-1, five innings. Austin Mason struck out seven.
