Baseball: Chris Castellanos throws one-hitter for Long Beach Poly

Stanford-bound left-hander Chris Castellanos was at his best on Saturday, throwing a one-hitter in Long Beach Poly’s 2-0 victory over Servite. USC-bound Frankie Rios had two hits. The Jackrabbits improved to 6-0.

Brian Serven struck out 10 and threw a three-hitter as Palm Desert defeated Orange Lutheran, 3-2. Kelly Arcand had two hits and two RBIs.

Ryan Kayoda threw a no-hitter in El Toro’s 4-0 win over Loara.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (4-0) defeated Sun Valley Poly, 8-1. Eddie Muhl (2-0) threw a complete game, striking out six and walking one. Jake Hirabayashi had two doubles and two RBIs.

Chatsworth defeated Thousand Oaks, 1-0, giving Coach Tom Meusborn his 600th career coaching victory. Nick Milone threw six shutout innings to outduel Ray Lambert. Alemany defeated Burroughs, 9-3, in nine innings. Nick Suniga broke up a 3-3 tie with an RBI double. Gus Mendoza and Alex McKenna had two hits apiece.

Cypress (4-0) scored a run in the seventh to pull out a 9-8 victory over Irvine University. Nick Valdez had three hits and three RBIs. Santa Margarita defeated Yorba Linda, 7-3. Tyler Halleck, Dillon Miyashiro and JJ Carr had two hits apiece.

Spencer Vogelbach threw a one-hitter in Oaks Christian’s 1-0 victory over Crespi. Sophomore Jack Ralston struck out six in six innings and Austin Russ had two hits in Hart’s 2-1 victory over Simi Valley. Cleveland defeated St. Bonaventure, 16-5. Andrew Devian and Ben Kaser had three hits apiece. Harley Faye hit his second home run in as many games.

Quartz Hill handed No. 1 Agoura its second consecutive defeat, 2-1. Joseph Teaney struck out five in four innings and also contributed two hits. Ty Boyles got the save. Paramount defeated St. John Bosco, 1-0. Ulices Moreno threw a three-hitter, striking out four and walking none.

Vista Murrieta stayed unbeaten with a 7-3 win over Tustin. J.T. McLellan had three hits. West Ranch defeated Rio Mesa, 10-4. Tony Slauson picked up four hits and Jake Bird had three hits.

Sierra Canyon defeated Leuzinger, 11-2. Brock Bell struck out 15 with no walks. El Camino Real picked up its first victory with a 9-5 win over Calabasas. Yannick Villanueva had two hits and three RBIs.

Buena defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 6-4. J.J. Gonzalez had three hits and three RBIs for Kennedy. San Fernando defeated Hueneme, 4-1. Armando Esparza threw five innings of scoreless ball. Alonzo Garcia had a triple and double. Hoover defeated Garfield, 5-1. Banning defeated Peninsula, 3-2. Steven Ortiz went two for two. Adam Maciel had three hits in Oxnard Pacifica’s 3-2, nine-inning loss to Culver City.

Crescenta Valley defeated Damien, 6-5, on Nolan Rea’s walk-off single with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning. Ted Boeke struck out two in the eighth to pick up the win.

Malibu stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Channel Islands. Chase Lambert struck out four in 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and had a two-run double. He’s nine for 15 with 13 RBIs.
