Rob Wigod, the new Southern Section commissioner, is facing major challenges this week in decisions that will be much discussed.

First up is a Tuesday meeting with Long Beach Poly officials to discuss the ramifications for the decision of Long Beach Poly boys’ basketball Coach Sharrief Metoyer to knowingly play an ineligible player last week during the state playoffs.

Two CIF officials said over the weekend that the matter was ‘very serious.’

‘It’s incredibly important and sets a very dangerous precedent when a coach knowingly and willfully violates CIF Southern Section rules,’ Southern Section spokesman Thom Simmons said.

Then, on Wednesday, St. Bonaventure, Oaks Christian, Damien and St. Lucy’s make their final appeal to the Southern Section Executive Committee regarding area placement for their sports programs for the 2014 releaguing cycle.

Once a final decision is made, areas will move forward and start to finalize their leagues.
