Boys’ basketball: Top seeds win in City Section Division I playoffs

The City Section Division I playoffs are going just as expected. Saturday’s semifinals at Cal State Dominguez Hills are set: No. 1 Westchester vs. No. 4 Palisades at 8 p.m.; No. 2 El Camino Real vs. No. 3 Crenshaw at 6 p.m.

Westchester cruised to a 71-41 victory over defending champion Taft. Elijah Stewart led the Comets with 17 points. El Camino Real defeated Narbonne, 69-34. Michael Thomas and Julian Richardson had 13 points apiece.

Crenshaw defeated University, 92-73. Micah Winn had 24 points and Andre Edwards and Trevell Garrett had 20 apiece. Palisades defeated Fairfax, 54-46. Ammar Rehman, Louis Kurihara and Dakota Chambers had 11 points each.

In Division III, top-seeded Los Angeles defeated Huntington Park, 58-54. Lenroy Butler had 17 points. Poly defeated Locke, 73-49. Cesar Reyes scored 25 points and Mario Castaneda had 15.

Chatsworth defeated Grant, 39-36, on a three-pointer by Michael Morrissey with 30 seconds left. He scored Chatsworth’s last nine points and finished with 17.

In Division II, Kennedy defeated Venice, 68-51. Dom Vargas scored 24 points. Sylmar also advances to the semifinals with an 89-64 victory over Carson. Cody Rodino scored 23 points.
