Standout sophomore guard Marcus LoVett Jr. of Burbank Providence didn’t play Friday and isn’t expected to play on Tuesday against Oakwood and could be done for the season to focus on academics, his father, Marcus Sr., said Tuesday.

‘Basketball is on the back burner,’ he said. ‘We’re doubling down on school.’

The elder LoVett said his son won’t play any spring basketball while focusing on getting his grades in order in preparation for college recruiting that picks up steam in June.
