Boys’ basketball: Long Beach Poly advances to semifinals

Long Beach Poly came out focused and aggressive and never looked back in a 75-69 victory over Loyola on Friday night in a Southern Section 1AA quarterfinal playoff game.

The Jackrabbits (27-2) led, 8-0, and 26-11 after one quarter. Loyola (22-7) rallied in the final minutes behind Trey Mason, who had 19 points, and Parker Jackson-Cartwright, who finished with 16 points.

But clutch free throws by Roschon Prince clinched the victory. Prince finished with 27 points and Jordan Bell had 18 points.

Poly will host Etiwanda in the semifinals. Etiwanda defeated Silverado, 43-28. Jordan McLauglin scored 16 points. Kenny Barnes had 12 rebounds.

Inglewood defeated Mission Viejo, 64-61. Inglewood will face Mater Dei in the other semfinal. Mater Dei defeated Rancho Verde, 56-40. Stanley Johnson had 22 points and 13 rebounds. Elijah Brown had 16 points.

In 1A, Santa Monica defeated Aliso Niguel, 75-63. Jordan Mathews scored 32 points. Trevis Jackson had 17 points.
