Boys' basketball: La Verne Lutheran stuns Bishop Montgomery

Bishop Montgomery's 29-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night when La Verne Lutheran defeated the Knights, 63-59, in the Southern Section 4AA semifinal.

The loss has huge state playoff implications, because Bishop Montgomery was expected to apply to participate in the new Open Division. Now the Knights could end up staying in Division IV.

"It was absolute elation," La Verne Lutheran Coach Brandon Lee said.

Josesph Rushing scored 17 points and Jay Miller made two free throws in the final two seconds to clinch the victory.

La Verne Lutheran won its 18th consecutive game and will play Gardena Serra in next week's final. Serra defeated Crespi, 74-62. Ellis Salahuddin scored 22 points and Ajon Efferson 13. London Perrantes and Max Heidegger had 16 points apiece.
