Boys' basketball: It's a three-way tie for first place in Alpha League
With the playoffs beginning next week, Los Angeles Windward is finally beginning to fulfill its potential. The Wildcats earned a share of the Alpha League championship with Brentwood and Pacific Hills on Thursday night by knocking off Brentwood, 55-54.
Jordan Wilson made the go-ahead basket and then Windward had to withstand a shot at the buzzer that hit the rim by Tra Holder. Windward, Brentwood and Pacific Hills all finish with 10-2 league records.
Charles Dawson, who made clutch free throws in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats, had 22 points. Windward (18-8) rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit. Holder led Brentwood (23-3) with 22 points.
Brentwood and Pacific Hills should be seeded No. 1 and 2 in Division 4A. Windward will have to deal with unbeaten Bishop Montgomery in Division 4AA.
Pacific Hills defeated Viewpoint, 83-49. Jahmel Taylor scored 29 points.
There's also a three-way tie for fourth place. Sierra Canyon, Campbell Hall and Paraclete are all 4-8. Paraclete defeated Campbell Hall, 78-72. Aaron Holiday had 26 points for Campbell Hall.
