Boys’ basketball: It’s a Loyola-Long Beach Poly quarterfinal

Loyola and Long Beach Poly are set to meet in Friday’s Southern Section 1AA quarterfinals at Loyola.

Loyola pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Pasadena, 80-56, on Tuesday night. Trey Mason scored Loyola’s first 15 points and finished with 21 on the night. Parker Jackson-Cartwright had 19 points and Thomas Welsh scored 12 and had four blocks, all in the second half.

Pasadena trailed by only two points early in the fourth quarter, then lost its composure. The Bulldogs were assessed four technicals in the final quarter. Andre Spight finished with 14 points for Pasadena.

Poly defeated Mayfair, 75-28. Roschon Prince had 19 points.

Rancho Verde defeated Chino Hills, 61-59, in double overtime. Silverado upset No. 3 Corona Centennial, 77-75. Inglewood defeated No. 5 Rancho Cucamonga, 76-51.

Mission Viejo defeated Orange Lutheran, 64-63. Evan Zeller had 18 points and six assists. Chandler Hutchison added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Mater Dei defeated Warren, 74-47. Elijah Brown had 15 points. Etiwanda defeated Great Oak, 68-50. Jordan McLaughlin scored 19 points, Sheldon Blackwell 18 and Kenny Barnes 17.
