Twenty-eight consecutive victories. That’s what Bishop Montgomery (28-0) has accomplished in boys’ basketball entering a quarterfinal game on Tuesday night on the road against Harvard-Westlake in the Southern Section 4AA playoffs.

‘They play together so well,’ Harvard-Westlake Coach Greg Hilliard said.

The good news for Harvard-Westlake (18-10) is the Wolverines have on occasion this season pulled off the upset, including wins over New York Cardinal Hayes, Seattle Rainier Beach and Los Angeles Loyola.

The Wolverines, though, are still suffering from injury problems. They’ve lost forward Sam Weintraub, who was injured in a pickup game over the weekend. Forward Derick Newton just returned from a shoulder injury and isn’t 100%. Guard Michael Sheng continues to play despite a hamstring injury.

So everything and more would have to come together for the Wolverines to pull off the upset.
