Boys' basketball: Bell tries to pull off upset against Kennedy

February 22, 2013 |  7:10 am

The City Section Division II semifinals are Friday at Venice High, with Bell taking on top-seeded Granada Hills Kennedy at 8 p.m. and Gardena facing No. 2 Sylmar at 6 p.m.

Bell won last year's City Division III championship, so the Eagles are used to playing in big games.

Kennedy has not won a City title in basketball since the school opened in 1971. The Golden Cougars' best teams were when Darren Daye was the team's star in the late 1970s, but Crenshaw was the big roadblock back then.

Sylmar, led by guard Cody Rodino, dropped from Division I to Division II this season, and that has been a big benefit for the Spartans.
