Any high school baseball team that starts the season with zero errors in 17 innings on its first day of action is going to be pretty special.

That’s what Cypress could be. The Centurions swept El Toro, 6-2, in 10 innings and 5-1. Their defense was causing people to say, ‘Wow.’

No errors all day.

And leading the way were the Fletcher brothers, senior David at shortstop and freshman Dominic in center field.

‘The Fletcher brothers were catching everything,’ Coach John Weber said.

Dominic made quite a first impression, with several diving catches.

‘He’s as good an outfielder as I’ve ever coached,’ Weber said.

With David Fletcher at shortstop and veteran Tyler Alamo behind the plate, Cypress has a defensive foundation that its pitchers will thrive on. Junior Trevor Hall, up from junior varsity, threw a one-hitter for six innings.
