Assistant commissioner Scott Raftery passes

Scott Raftery, an assistant commissioner with the Southern Section, died Saturday morning after battling cancer. He was 55.

Raftery played baseball at Arcadia High and Azusa Pacific.

He worked for 16 years at Linfield Christian in Temecula, where he was athletic director and also spent 14 years as softball coach, winning four section titles.

“Scott was a man who truly dedicated his life to caring for others and giving his best efforts to help students, coaches, administrators, parents, officials and media members, virtually everyone he came in contact with,” said Southern Section Commissioner Rob Wigod in a statement.
