There will be no reversal in the Southern Section decision to place Ventura St. Bonaventure and Westlake Village Oaks Christian in the parochial area beginning in 2014.

St. Bonaventure Principal Marc Groff confirmed on Friday that Southern Section Commissioner Rob Wigod and his office has not changed its recommendation. It leaves St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian in the position of having to appeal at a meeting of the Executive Committee in March.

If the schools don’t win their appeal, they will have to join a league with other private schools. Currently, their sports teams compete in the Marmonte League for football and the Tri-Valley Athletic Association for other sports.

‘I’m not encouraged. I’m not discouraged,’ Groff said.

But the failure to convince Wigod to change his mind after a meeting in December leaves things uncertain for the next few months. Athletic directors in the Northern area and the parochial area won’t be able to move full speed ahead trying to figure out new leagues until the appeals process is completed.

Groff will try to put together evidence to convince members of the Executive Committee that not leaving St. Bonaventure in the Northern area will produce severe travel and competitive equity hardships for students in a variety of sports.
