Football: City Section is expected to add third playoff division

The City Section football advisory committee has recommended adding a third division to its playoffs, which would allow 16 more teams to be selected for the playoffs. It needs final approval from the Interscholastic Athletic Committee.

If approved, there would be 16-team playoff brackets for Division I, II and III.

There would be 21 schools in Division I, 24 in Division II and 25 in Division III.

This past season, champions were crowned in Division I and II and eight-man.
