Boys’ basketball: Providence holds off Locke

Los Angeles Locke put up a good fight on Saturday in the one-day Gardena Serra tournament before losing to Burbank Providence, 54-53. The Saints applied pressure all day against standout sophomore guard Marcus LoVett Jr., who missed 15 shots.

But LoVett still scored 27 points, including two free throws with 17.9 seconds left.

Mike Chavers scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds for Locke, which competes in City Section Division III.

Rolling Hills Prep defeated Renaissance, 39-25. Washington defeated L.A. Salesian, 57-47. Price received 18 points from Chance Murray in an 81-38 win over Perris. Serra defeated Fresno Central, 69-56. Ellis Salahuddin had 17 points and Ajon Efferson 14 for Serra.

L.A. Cathedral defeated St. Anthony, 79-78, in two overtimes. Eric Cooper had 42 points for St. Anthony.
