Boys’ basketball: Oak Park pulls out 63-62 thriller over Oaks Christian

The public-private school battles between Oak Park and Oaks Christian bring out lots of fans, and the packed gymnasium at Oak Park on Wednesday got to see a thriller.

Oak Park pulled out a 63-62 Tri-Valley League victory. Ron Lee Jr. scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and was five of six from the free-throw line down the stretch for the Eagles. He finished with 19 points and 10 assists. Michael Alvarez had 15 points off the bench.

In the Alpha League, Windward stunned No. 6-ranked Pacific Hills, 66-62. Roy Hemsley scored 17 points, Charles Dawson 16 and Jordan Wilson 13 points. Pacific Hills was in first place and unbeaten in league play. Marcus Jackson had 35 points for Pacific Hills, which played without Namon Wright (injury). He’s expected back for Saturday’s game against Campbell Hall.

In the Mission League, St. Francis upset Alemany, 48-46. Kyle Leufroy scored 17 points and Markar Agakanian had 10 points.

In the Ocean League, Santa Monica defeated Hawthorne, 67-48. Chris Smith scored 15 points and Jordan Mathews and Trevis Jackson added 11 apiece.

In the Sierra League, Damien defeated Charter Oak, 58-18. Jeremy Hemsley and Jared Dizon had 13 points apiece. Chino Hills defeated South Hills, 87-49. Bishop Mency had 18 points and Cameron Curry 17.

In the Moore League, No. 3-ranked Long Beach Poly received 16 points from Roschon Prince in a 71-35 win over Long Beach Jordan. Long Beach Millikan defeated Long Beach Cabrillo, 116-105.

In the Del Rey League, No. 2-ranked Bishop Montgomery defeated St. Bernard, 86-29. Lamond Murray Jr. had 22 points and Justin Bibbins had 20 points.

Bell-Jeff knocked off St. Anthony, 59-54. Eric Cooper had 18 points for St. Anthony.
