Boys' basketball: Mission Viejo knocks off El Toro

January 30, 2013 |  9:33 pm

Mission Viejo fans were celebrating a 66-60 victory over El Toro on Wednesday night by waving balloons and and towels. But they hope to be a lot happier when final word comes out regarding the condition of standout point guard Evan Zeller.

He went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter, and his availabilty will be determined after seeing a doctor. The Diablos (21-2, 5-1) led by 11 points at the time of the injury and stretched their lead to 17 points in the fourth quarter before surviving a frantic comeback bid by El Toro (20-5, 4-1).

El Toro started throwing in lots of threes. The Chargers finished with nine on the night. Cody White had 16 points and Tanner Aguera had 15 points.

Darin Sutton led Mission Viejo with 20 points. Zeller had 12 and Max Redfield 11.
