Boys' basketball: Long Beach Poly is beaten by Chicago Young

January 19, 2013 |  5:40 pm

The bad news for Long Beach Poly is that it suffered its second defeat of the season on Saturday in Springfield, Mass., during the Hoophall Classic.

The good news is that Poly's two losses have come to two of the best teams in the nation, Florida Montverde Academy and Chicago Young.

Jahlil Okafor, a 6-foot-11 junior center, scored 26 points and Paul White, a 6-9 forward, had 20 points in Young's 85-52 win over Poly (17-2).

Kameron Murrell scored 15 points for the Jackrabbits.

In Springfield, Mo., Bellflower St. John Bosco (15-4) defeated Missouri Nixa, 73-63. Isaac Hamilton and Tyler Dorsey scored 22 points apiece.

In a Western League game, Reggie Theus Jr. scored 13 points to help Fairfax defeat LACES, 67-53.
