Boys’ basketball: El Camino Real gets first win over Taft since 1992

There was going to be a party in Woodland Hills one way or the other Wednesday night, but for the first time since 1992, El Camino Real was able to defeat rival Taft, 77-48, in a West Valley League game.

Julian Richardson scored 23 points, Michael Thomas had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Evan Wardlow had 11 points and Maleke Haynes had 10 assists for the Conquistadores (19-2, 5-0). Kris Yanku led Taft (9-11, 2-3) with 23 points.

In the Western League, Westchester defeated University, 76-51. Matthew Grant had 15 points. Fairfax defeated Venice, 78-35. Reggie Theus Jr. and Antoine Monroe had 15 points apiece.

In the East Valley League, Grant defeated Monroe, 76-37. Tullio Parry had 23 points. Grant is 15-6 and 6-0. Poly defeated Verdugo Hills, 73-41. Sal Gonzalez scored 20 points and Cesar Reyes had 18 points and 10 assists.

In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated Canoga Park, 75-19. Marco Gonzalez scored 17 points. Sylmar defeated Reseda, 107-75. Devenir Duruisseau had 26 points and Cody Rodino 24.
