Boys’ basketball: Crespi pulls off upset in Mission League opener

Always count on Encino Crespi Coach Russell White to get his team to improve over the course of a season, and that’s what the Celts have done, as indicated by their 84-81 victory over Studio City Harvard-Westlake on Friday in a Mission League opener.

Point guard London Perrantes has suddenly found his scoring touch, and he responded with 33 points and seven assists. Crespi improved to 11-5 overall. Michael Sheng, a junior point guard, led Harvard-Westlake (9-4) with 20 points.

Loyola, playing without injured point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright, defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 75-46. Trey Mason scored 18 points. Loyola has a showdown game with Chaminade on Monday night at Chaminade.

Alemany defeated St. Francis, 58-45. Sophomore Bennie Boatwright scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds. Bear Henderson added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Bryan Alberts made a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Village Christian (14-2) a 56-54 win over West Ranch in a nonleague game. Alberts had 24 points.

In the Tri-Valley League, Oak Park held on for a 31-29 win over Oaks Christian. J.D. Slajchert had 12 points and Ron Lee Jr. had 10 in a defensive struggle.

In the Alpha League, Campbell Hall defeated Sierra Canyon, 63-47. Aaron Holiday scored 32 points.

Unbeaten Torrance Bishop Montgomery rolled to an 87-51 win over Narbonne. Lamond Murray Jr. scored 31 points and Stephen Thompson Jr. had 15.

In the Trinity League, unbeaten Mater Dei defeated Santa Margarita, 65-47. Stanley Johnson scored 17 points. St. John Bosco defeated JSerra, 79-63. Daniel Hamilton had 21 points and Tyler Dorsey 19. Mater Dei plays at St. John Bosco on Wednesday night. Orange Lutheran defeated Servite, 64-29.

Long Beach St. Anthony, finally at full strength after the arrival of several transfer students, knocked off Westchester in overtime, 65-61.

Rancho Cucamonga defeated Rialto, 79-33. Daylan Lawrence had 21 points. Crescenta Valley defeated Muir, 69-60. Cole Currie had 29 points.

Jeremy Major scored 20 points in Maranatha’s 58-52 win over La Salle. Milan Acquaah had 26 points for La Salle.

Grant defeated Birmingham, 64-63. Tavi’on McLaren made a layup with one second left. Tullio Parry scored 21 points for the Lancers. Sergey Khachatryan added 20 points. Iseah Rodgers led Birmingham with 18 points.
